Privacy Policy

Account information: when you register, we collect your email address, a username, a display name, and optionally your country and gender. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.

Gameplay data: we store your games (moves, result, time control, opponent, and timestamps), ELO rating, and win/loss/draw record so you can track your history and be matched fairly.

Guest Mode: if you play as a guest, we do not create an account or store any persistent record tied to you; guest session data lives only in your browser and is discarded when you leave.

Technical data: we automatically receive standard technical information such as IP address and browser type through our hosting and connection infrastructure, used for security, abuse prevention, and connection quality (for example, routing your video connection).

Chessorix's video chess uses WebRTC to connect your camera and microphone directly, peer-to-peer, with your opponent's device. Once a connection is established, video and audio travel directly between the two of you.

We do not record, store, or have access to your video or audio streams. They are never routed through or saved on our servers. In some network conditions, a connection relay service (a TURN server, provided by our infrastructure partner Metered) helps establish the connection, but it relays encrypted media without recording or storing it.

Camera and microphone access is entirely optional and can be turned off at any time.

We use the information above to: operate your account and let you sign in; match you with opponents and calculate ratings; show your public profile and game history; send account-related emails (verification, password resets); and detect and prevent abuse, cheating, and fraud.

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run Chessorix, each only receives what it needs to do its job: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Metered.ca (WebRTC connection relaying), Render (our real-time game server), Vercel (website hosting), Resend (transactional email delivery), and Google (if you choose to sign in with Google).

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

If you create an account, your username, display name, avatar, country (if set), ELO rating, and game statistics are visible on your public profile page to anyone, including people who are not signed in. Your email address is never made public.

Chessorix is not directed at, and is not intended for use by, anyone under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from someone under 18, we will delete it. See our Terms of Service for our age requirement.

We retain your account information and game history for as long as your account exists. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by contacting us; some information, such as anonymized game records that don't identify you, may be retained for platform integrity.

We use browser local storage and cookies to keep you signed in, remember preferences such as theme, and support guest sessions. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

We use industry-standard practices to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access-controlled databases. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. You can exercise these rights by contacting us directly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above.
